In bonobo societies, all bonobos frequently engage in sexual contact with other members of the community, regardless of sex. Female bonobos in particular are quite promiscuous with both fellow females and males; thus, bonobo society is matrilineal or matrifocal. Since the patriline of each member is unknown due to female bonobos having many sexual partners, the female bonobos take communal care of their collective young, and the male bonobos take on other community-care roles instead. It is theorized that this leads to lower levels of violent conflict, as opposed to chimpanzee, human, and other primate societies that are patriarchal, since male members of these societies must find ways to identify their offspring which inevitably leads to violent, controlling behavior toward female members as well as violence & competitive behavior toward other males who may pose a threat to their social statuses. Bonobo societies are extremely peaceful in comparison to other primate societies.
The feature musical film Mamma Mia! (2008), directed by Phyllida Lloyd, shows an example of what a matrifocal society, resembling the structure of bonobo society, could look like for humans; where several females care for a child whose exact paternity is unknown, and instead of violence resort to prosocial behavior (joyfully singing and dancing) in order to resolve conflict. In this essay I will attempt to
it’s difficult to be a dom with anarchist leanings.
my sub will be like “i have to tell you something… i broke a rule. i’ll accept whatever punishment you see fit.” and i’m like. rise up comrade you have nothing to lose but your padded restraints. no doms no masters. oh you want me to spank you. yeah i can do that.
there’s a rare special kind of girl you can only find adrift in the hulks of ruined spacecraft or long buried tombs or inside sealed canisters with warning signs all over
seeing all the 14-17 y/o queer kids who don’t know what v for vendetta is…. u mean the blockbuster film written by two trans women about a masked vigilante who decides to singlehandedly take down a fascist alternate version of england set in the distant year of 2020… and his driving force was getting justice for a lesbian who he never met but whose diary he found, who was separated from her wife before being killed by said fascist gov…. and it stars natalie portman…. okay
and they’ve never been more relevant
“People shouldn’t be afraid of their government. Governments should be afraid of their people.”
There’s strong subtext that V is a trans man and A)the lesbian from the diary or B)her wife.
frankly I prefer the movie over the comic, for three reasons:
1) lewis prothero as a rush limbaugh/glenn beck/bill o’reilly type is both more applicable and way funnier than a 1940s radio propagandist
2) it has stephen fry as gordon detriech, and makes him explicitly gay and pretending to be attracted to evey as part of being closeted than actually attracted to evey and having sex with her while she hides in his home.
3) the movie came out in 2005; that is, only four years after 9/11, while the Iraq war was still in full swing, and while xenophobia and Islamophobia were not just acceptable, but tacitly encouraged by the administration at the time. which makes the following exchange even more poignant and sweet:
Evey: [seeing a book in a glass display case] What is that? Gordon: It’s a copy of the Qur’an, 14th century. Evey: [shocked] Are you a Muslim? Gordon: No, I’m in television. Evey: But why would you keep it? Gordon: I don’t have to be a Muslim to find the images beautiful or its poetry moving.
just… the easy acceptance of it. the idea that a religion that he doesn’t believe in and that has been explicitly outlawed in-universe is a source of beauty. I’m not Muslim, either, but that particular moment really stuck with me emotionally.
“Boroughsburg is an up-and-coming neighborhood in New York City that straddles the delicate line between working-class grittiness and rarefied hipsterdom. Enjoy spectacular views of Manhattan from the waterfront while live music, outdoor markets, and art shows brighten atmospheric cobblestone streets lined with old brick warehouses and trendy lofts.
Not your stuff? You could always go for gyros, pierogies or matzo ball soup at the local diners, get to know the old-timers, or just dance the night away.”
Boroughsburg has been updated with a wonderful curation of residential and community lots, and improvements have been made to nearly every aspects of the world!
But in addition to these improvements, a customized populated savegame has also been created—this is Boroughsburg’s Story Mode—and with more than 80 diverse sims (and many more townies), this savegame allows you to immediately jump right into Boroughsburg—right into the tangle and drama of these sims’ lives!

killing myself in a tesla and just leaving it on autopilot so my corpse is in there jostling around while it crashes into things
It would almost be funnier if the AI was like in sci-fi and was functional enough to drive like a menacing asshole without actually hitting anything and periodically recharge itself.
Local shitty driver buys a Tesla
Programs the AI with his schedule
AI learns from his aggressive driving habits
One Friday Rush Hour he road rages so hard he has a heart attack and dies at the wheel
Car drives home unknowing
Next monday it leaves for work like nothing happened
Someone eventually notices but dead guy has been in the car for a few days so no one really wants to be the guy to take him out
Every day at precisely 7:55 AM the car leaves the garage, drives itself to this dude’s office, and drives home 8 hours later still parading his decomposing body around the city while it swerves, cuts people off, honks, zooms through yellow lights, and stops just short of innocent pedestrians while honking rudely
Eventually the company gives his assigned parking spot to someone else so the car just starts parking somewhere else or roaming the city aimlessly. This is the only thing anyone actually does about it.
This goes on for months until there is nothing but a skeleton in moldering clothes haunting the freeways as it mindlessly commutes to and from work every monday thru friday
Legends spread of the Ghost Rider of I-45. Some genius superglues a Starbucks cup to the roof of the car so people are more likely to approach it while it’s parked.
The anti-theft devices prevent anyone from removing the skeleton. Muskrat refuses to remotely disable them because he’s an asshole and thinks his car continuing to commute months after its owner’s death is a great publicity stunt.
The Ghost Rider’s reign of terror finally ends after 2 years when the car’s degraded tires blow out at 85 mph, causing it to swerve into the front of a semi and carry the restless spirit of the nameless office worker to Valhalla in a pyre of toxic lithium battery smoke
But the legend lives on
They say that every evening M-F around 6:30 PM, if you watch closely beside the off-ramp of Exit 76A, you can see the afterimage of a red sedan fly past at well over the speed limit, the ghostly skeletal figure of its passenger, too much of a dick for heaven but not cool enough for hell, still raising its bony middle finger at other motorists. Leaving no trace of its existence except a faint smell of burning batteries and plastic.
In the 1960s sci-fi writers were already like “what if your self driving car locked you inside and you couldn’t get out of if there’s a problem. Would that be Fucked Up Or What. Don’t create the torment nexus” and then Elon Musk was like “look at my exciting new self driving car that you can’t get out of if there’s a problem. I call it the Torment Nexus”
today i talked to a 14 year old who told me they saw “puss and boots” recently and loved it, and they said they had to go see it because they love “shrek.” they were like, “that movie is just iconic.” and i was like, “oh yeah, haha, it came out when i was a kid, so i know what you mean.” and they were like “o_O what?! shrek came out when you were a KID?” and i was like “yeah, i know it’s like retro for teens to like it now, right?” and they were like… “wait, what?!?! SHREK? that movie came out when you were a KID? and you saw it when it came out????? what was that even like!!!” and i was just like “haha well you know it was… well. it was. it was definitely a movie a lot of us watched at that time. shrek.” and the look on their face was like i had just told them i saw the beatles in concert in 1964
is the world really such a terrible place? yesterday i asked if oat milk was extra and the barista said yes so i said ok just regular milk then and when she gave me my chai latte she whispered “i used oat milk ;)” doesnt that make u want to live another day?
here is my life philosophy: next week there might be someone ahead of you in line at the store who’s short a quarter and you have a quarter and you can give it to them. if you weren’t there, they’d have to put something back. the week after that you could be getting lunch and the waiter might ask if you want some pancakes someone else ordered and never picked up. you could find someone’s lost cat. you could watch someone’s bag while they go to the restroom. there are so many ways you are going to touch other people’s lives and they are going to touch yours and there’s no way to know when it’s going to happen. so you have to keep living!!! i wouldn’t want to die knowing that tomorrow the barista will give me free oat milk just to be nice.
When I was 11 years old - we went to Sea World for my birthday. This was to avoid the realization I had no friends, and no one to come to a birthday party and probably because someone gave my mother free tickets at work. It was kinda a shitty day despite being at a theme park full of cute animals. There was a new roller coaster there that had just opened so we decided to go on. I was nervous. I’d never been on a roller coaster.
A group of 6 college kids were ahead of us in line and started chatting with me. Full on just having a fun conversation with someone literally going through the beginning of a very awkward middle school period. I was so shocked they wanted to talk to me. I think my mom mentioned it was my birthday. They were very nice about it. When we got on the ride they told us to go ahead of them so we could sit at the front of the car since it held 8 people.
Now the ride (called Journey to Atlantis - I believe it is sadly no longer there) started with a slow ride of beautiful visuals of dolphins and oceans and computerized images of this imaginary Atlantis before going up the hill to the beginning of the coaster, where it paused for about 30 seconds, and then the ride started. The college kids must have known there would be a pause. Maybe they’d ridden it before I’m not sure.
But as we sat there on that peak, 6 people I’ve never known, and will never know again, sang a very very lonely 11 year old happy birthday. Loudly. And with gusto. They were happy and laughing and joyful. And it made me feel less alone in the world.
I am 29 years old this year, and I still remember them. I still remember that kindness. It is so important. It doesn’t go into a vacuum. It exists beside me in my daily life. And I love the idea that I have been that person to someone else too.
It’s stunningly lovely to be human when we’re kind to each other.
